Gulfstream Cafe is one of the more renowned eateries along the Grand Strand. With its modestly elegant atmosphere, the restaurant embodies a uniquely southern blend of ease and refinement rarely captured and often misunderstood by those who have never visited. Watercolor-like landscapes frame the setting (which offers ample outdoor seating) and picture windows give indoor diners a breathtaking view of sleepy Murrells Inlet. Famed as much for its food as for its sunsets, Gulfstream Cafe sits just south of the Garden City Connector alongside Martin Quay Marina.
Though the restaurant is somewhat upscale and prices reflect that quality ($10-$30 per entree), a well-protected locals’ secret is the Early Bird Special served from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. One of Gulfstream’s signature entrees is the delicately flavored Grouper Francais, sauteed in a parmesan batter and finished with a lemon butter sauce. Of course you’ll find other southern favorites like shrimp and grits, as well as richly satisfying appetizers like the Oysters Rockefeller or bacon-wrapped scallops. Everything is done with panache against a backdrop of clean white linen, and portions are generous but not overwhelming.

The restaurant is perfect for a relaxed date night, but does offer a well-rounded kids’ menu as well. Whether you’re coming back for the 10th time or making your first foray into the Inlet, you’ll discover all that’s best about the southeast, neatly presented in as if on a silver platter, at Gulfstream Cafe. This is one of those places we at CRG love to recommend, if only because it truly never disappoints.
